I saw the XXL at my sister's house and knew I wanted one, too. I chose one size down since I'm 5' 4" and didn't want to be wrestling with the XXL. The XL stands about 5' tall and has plenty of drying space. I fit one load of wash, having to fold a few items in half for conserving a bit of space. No, you cannot clip normal clothespins on to the dowels, however they clip just fine on to the wet item itself.
I have no complaints. It's well made, sturdy, and seems like it will last a lifetime and beyond. Just remember to place it perpendicular to the wind if you're drying sheets, blankets, or any other large piece of solid cloth that tends to form a parachute when hit head-on by the wind. ;)
I use mine on my front deck; it's surprisingly easy for me to lift the whole thing up fully loaded and bring it inside should it start raining.
Highly recommend.
